Complete TD04-4 turbocharger assembly carrying both reference numbers that matter: 49389-02042 from the turbo manufacturer and ME223610 from the engine manufacturer, built for the 4.9 litre four-cylinder 4M50-3AT7 diesel engine. Six sister numbers sit within two digits of this unit and one of them belongs to a different rating, so this page separates them before anything is quoted. Cartridge only and complete unit are also priced apart here.

| Two Numbers, Two Owners | The thirteen-digit number belongs to the turbo maker and the short one to the engine maker; a quotation carrying only the first cannot be checked against the engine plate. |
|---|---|
| Sisters Within Two Digits | 02040, 02041, 02043 and 02049 all sit inside the same casting family, and only the last two digits separate a correct unit from a wrong one. |
| The One That Is Not This | 02060 pairs with ME226939 on a different build of the same engine and is routinely written into headings beside this number. |
| Wheel Family Dispute | The same number is advertised as TD04-4 and as TD04HL4S-15MK-6.6, which are different compressor wheel families, so the rotation group has to be confirmed rather than assumed. |
| Machine Type In The Title | Headings attach this unit to trucks, buses and excavators alike because the base engine code is shared, and the rating inside that code decides which turbo is right. |
| Caution – Cartridge Priced As Unit | The cheapest figures in this family are for the CHRA core alone and arrive without housings, so a buyer comparing them with a complete turbo is comparing a part with an assembly. |
| Caution – Twelve Times Spread | Complete units in this listing pool run from a few hundred yuan to several thousand, and the top of that band is where genuine and imported stock sits. |
| Caution – Oil Starvation First | Most failures returned on this model begin with a blocked feed or a restricted return, so a replacement fitted onto the same dirty circuit will fail the same way. |
| Caution – Actuator Setting | The wastegate arm is set on a flow bench and should not be adjusted to chase a boost complaint before the feed, the intercooler and the sensor are checked. |
| Related Components | CHRA cartridge, turbine housing, compressor housing, wastegate actuator, fitting kit, oil feed pipe, oil return pipe, exhaust gasket, air inlet hose |
Both, because they answer different questions. The long number identifies the turbo as built, and the short one identifies the engine variant it was released against. A supplier who only recognises one of them is working from a partial catalogue, and the mismatch usually surfaces at the flange rather than at the invoice.
Close enough to bolt on and wrong enough to run badly. They share a casting family and a flange pattern, so the unit fits and the engine starts, but the wheel trim and the actuator crack pressure were released for a different fuel setting. The result is usually overboost at the top end or a lazy bottom end that gets blamed on the pump.
Because two wheel families were released against closely related numbers and sellers copy each other's headings. TD04 and TD04HL do not share a compressor wheel, so a cartridge bought under the wrong family name will not balance against the housing it is pressed into. Ask for the wheel diameter and the housing part number rather than the family name alone.
