Product Description

The 6081 is the 8.1 litre inline six of the PowerTech family, built on a 116 mm bore and 129 mm stroke (494 cu in). Its real identity sits in the configuration code that follows the number — from the turbocharged T build through the aftercooled A and the 224 kW H version to the 250 hp AF industrial rating — and compression ratio moves with the build between 16.5 and 15.7 to 1. This page lists the configuration codes, the part numbers that belong to each, and the neighbouring models that are often confused with it.

Key Features
  • 8.1 litres, 494 cubic inches, six cylinders
  • Configuration code stated with the rating
  • Both compression ratios given by build
  • Overhaul and injector numbers listed
  • Neighbouring displacements flagged for comparison

Cross Compatibility Reference
Letters Carry The BuildT marks turbocharged, A adds aftercooling, H is the high output version, and AF and HF are the industrial and heavy duty variants of those two
Family Neighbours6068 is 6.8 litres and 6090 is 9.0 litres; both are frequently listed in the same heading as this engine and neither swaps in
Ordering PathA complete engine is ordered by the configuration code plus the serial, as in 6081AF001, and not by the bare number 6081
Piston And Liner SetOverhaul kits for this family travel on RE64509, RE70688 and R116236, and piston codes 4802 and 4806 appear in the same listings
Fitment Cautions

Neighbouring head numbers: RE521639 is a 6068 head and RE520563 belongs to 6135, yet both appear in feeds that also carry this engine, so a head bought on the family name will not fit.

Turbo is build specific: RE501669 and RE527123 are quoted for the H build, and fitting them to a lower rated unit changes boost against a fuel setting that was never calibrated for it.

One heading, nine models: Headings listing 4024 through 6135 in a single line are selling a catalogue rather than a stock item, and the price quoted applies to none of them specifically.

Prices below parts value: Figures of five or seven thousand yuan for a complete eight litre engine are deposits or packing charges, since the overhaul kit alone trades in the thousands.

Emission generation: The A and H builds served Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, so a project demanding a later stage needs a different family rather than a different sticker.

FAQ

Q1: Why does 6081 alone not identify an engine?

Because the number only records displacement. What the engine actually is sits in the letters and digits that follow, and those decide aspiration, cooling, governor setting and the fuel curve. Two units carrying the same six thousand and eighty one can differ by well over a hundred horsepower and by a full point of compression, which is enough to make one a poor substitute for the other.

Q2: How do the T, A and H versions differ in practice?

T is turbocharged, A adds an aftercooler to bring charge temperature down and allow more fuel, and H is the highest rated industrial build at 224 kW. Compression falls from 16.5 to 15.7 to one as boost rises, because the cylinder is being filled more densely and does not need the same geometric ratio to ignite. That is why a head gasket and a piston set are not shared across the three.

Q3: What should a buyer send before an engine is quoted?

The plate photograph showing the configuration code and serial, plus the machine model and the year. The plate ends the guessing in one step, because it records exactly which build left the factory rather than which family the seller thinks it belongs to. Without it, every quotation in this range is an estimate dressed as a price.

Q4: Which injector set fits?

RE524364, supplied as a set of six.

Q5: How much does the H build produce?

224 kW, which is 300 hp.

Q6: Which displacement sits either side?

6068 at 6.8 litres below and 6090 at 9.0 litres above.
