For 40-ton and larger machines, Cummins QSM11 (10.8 L) and QSX15 (15.0 L) are the engines of choice in many Hyundai, Doosan and mining excavators. They are built for continuous high load with massive torque reserves, and their aftermarket support is among the best in the industry. If you repower a large excavator, these are the safest bets.
The 12.2-liter SAA6D125E drives Komatsu PC400-8 and PC450-8, the flagship production excavators trusted in rock and heavy earthmoving. Komatsu's own high-pressure injection system gives it a smooth, economical power band. It is a favorite for fleet owners who keep machines for 10,000+ hours.
Mini excavators from 6 to 13 tons are the fastest-growing segment, and the 3.8-liter Kubota V3800 turbo-diesel is the engine most of them rely on. It is compact, quiet, and cheap to rebuild — three qualities that matter enormously to mini-excavator owners. When a mini machine needs a new heart, the V3800 is the default answer.
